Hello there! This quarantine caught us among many dreams and aspirations. It affects all of us, especially to those who love visiting new places and live new adventures. I remember as if it was yesterday, the days of carnivals in Venice, with their beautiful and impressive costumes. I told to myself how lucky I’m to be in that place and appreciate the beauties of life. But something that caught our attention immediately was the little amount of people. Many businesses that we visited at dinner time were empty and the owners said they missed the visitors from China (At that time this country had a very high number of infected with COVID). We thought it was something that would not leave the country (China) because, since February / March, Italy closed the flights that came from China. And now, look how alarming is the situation. Well, despite all that, there is no doubt that the week we were there was awesome and we managed to capture images of very original costumes and even had a day where I dressed up and lived my moment of magic and splendor.
Well, I will tell you a little bit about the carnival. Did you know that it is the oldest carnival in the world? Although the carnival had been celebrated for a long time before in its different variants, numerous historical documents point to the fact that it was in Venice that this festival born officially and in a version that looks very close to the one that currently exists.
Masks decorated with beautiful motifs and feathers or elegant antique costumes cover streets and canals during this dates when it is possible to lose yourself in the mysterious atmosphere that carnival generates and enjoy the moment knowing that with your face hidden, there is no danger.

¡Hola por aquí! Esta cuarentena nos agarro entre muchos sueños y aspiraciones. Nos afecta mucho a todos, sobretodo a los que nos encanta visitar nuevos lugares y vivir nuevas aventuras. Recuerdo como si fuera ayer, los días de carnavales en Venecia, con sus hermosos e impactantes disfraces. Me decía a mi misma que afortunada era de estar en ese lugar y apreciar las bellezas de la vida. Pero, algo que llamo mucho nuestra atención fue el volumen de personas. Muchos negocios que visitamos a la hora de la cena estaban vacíos y los dueños nos decían que se debía a que ya China para esa fecha, estaba con un números de infectados muy elevados. Pensamos que era algo que no saldría del país ya que para Febrero/Marzo, Italia cerro los vuelos que venían de China. A pesar de todo eso, no hay duda que la semana estuvimos allí fue una maravilla y logramos capturar imágenes de disfraces muy originales y hasta hubo un día donde me disfrace y viví mi momento de magia y esplendor.
Bueno, les cuento un poco del carnaval. ¿Sabías que es el carnaval más antiguo del mundo? Aunque el carnaval venía celebrándose desde mucho antes a través de sus distintas variantes, numerosos documentos históricos apuntan a que fue en Venecia donde esta fiesta surgió de manera oficial y en una versión muy próxima a la que existe actualmente.
Las máscaras decoradas con hermosos motivos y plumas o las elegantes vestimentas de época cubren calles y canales por igual durante unas fechas en las que es posible perderse en la misteriosa atmósfera que el carnaval genera y dejarse llevar sabiendo que, con el rostro oculto, no hay peligro.
Algunas de las curiosidades del carnaval
- En la época de su fundación, el Carnaval llegaba a durar hasta seis meses.
- Teniendo en cuenta que el carnaval se celebra en febrero, el frío, la lluvia e incluso la nieve forman parte del paisaje.
- Gracias a las máscaras y los disfraces, tan solo los ojos quedaban al descubierto para colocar a toda la población en igualdad de condiciones sin hacer distinciones de sexo, religión o clase social.
- El gobierno del país tuvo que imponer una prohibición al uso de máscaras durante el resto del año, una vez terminado el carnaval.
- La Piazza San Marco es un lugar exclusivo famoso por organizar eventos durante el Carnaval y si vas a tomar fotos este es el mejor spot.
- Las horas mas lindas para tomar fotos de los disfraces es en la tarde con la luz del sunset. No te preocupes en la Piazza San Marco por lo general llegan muchas personas disfrazadas.
- Si te gusta levantarte temprano y tomar fotos, muchas veces en las mañanas hay neblina en el área donde reposan las góndolas y desde allí puedes sacar unas tomas muy originales.
¿Es necesario disfrazarse? En principio no, pero sí es interesante adquirir aunque sea la máscara para disfrutar de la festividad como uno más.
